Originally it was the Feudal lord garden of the Kofu clan in the Edo period, and has ponds where seawater enters and two hunting grounds for ducks. The highlight is the "Kaiyusiki Tukiyama Sensui Garden (Garden whose artificially created mountain and fountain can be appreciated while walking in the park).” This fountain garden can take in seawater from the ocean and its scenery that changes with the tide has an enjoyable charm. It has a mechanism that opens and closes the water gate according to the water level in the Tokyo Bay and adjusts the water’s access to the pond.
There used to be tidal ponds in "Kyu Shiba Rikyu," "Kiyosumi Garden," and "Kyu Yasuda Garden," but the existing ones are now only here.
The younger brother of the fourth generation general, Tunashige Matsudaira, began landscaping. Afterwards, it was completed throughout six generations of the Shogunate. After the Meiji Restoration it became a house of the Imperial Family, and took the name of Hamarikyu for the first time.
