水の神
イザナギがカグツチを斬り殺した時に生まれた神です。タカオカミノカミの娘のヒカワヒメと、スサノオの孫のフハノモヂクヌスヌノカミとの間に生まれた神がフカフチノミヅレハナノカミです。この神の孫が日本の国土を創り上げたオオクニヌシです。
水の神
イザナミは、カグツチを生んだことによって火傷し、苦しんでいました。その時にイザナミがした尿から、ミズハノメが生まれました。ミズハは「水走」という意味で、灌漑用水や井戸のから出る湧き水のことを指しています。

Izanami was in pain after giving birth to Kagutsuchi. Mizuhanome was born from Izanami's urine. Mizuha means "water running" and refers to irrigation water and spring water from wells.
タカオカミノカミは降雨・止雨を司る神で、歴代朝廷、庶民に至るまで広く信仰されました。当時一般的には、神社に祈願する際には”本物の馬”を奉納する習慣がありましたが、ある時、木板に描いた馬の絵を奉納しました。本物の馬より手軽だったので、それから「絵馬」が始まったとされています。
さらに、貴船神社はえんむすびの神としても有名です。
平安時代の女流歌人・和泉式部が夫の心変わりに悩んで参詣され、見事に復縁祈願が成就した逸話が有名です。
以来、えんむすびのご祈願にも霊験あらたかであると信仰が広まり、現代では特に若い世代の参拝者が多く、貴船神社での神前結婚式も人気が高くなっています。
ちなみにこの貴船神社は、京都でも有名な紅葉の名所です。

Takaokaminokami is a god who controls rainfall and stopping rain, and was widely worshiped by the successive imperial courts and commoners. At that time, it was generally customary to dedicate a “real horse” when praying at a shrine, but one day I dedicated a picture of a horse drawn on a wooden board. Since it was easier than a real horse, it is said that "ema" began. In addition, Kifune Shrine is also famous as the god of enmusubi. A well-known anecdote is that a female poet from the Heian period, Izumi Shikibu, visited the shrine after being troubled by her husband's change of heart, and her prayer for reconciliation was successfully fulfilled. Since then, faith has spread that prayers for enmusubi have a miraculous effect, and nowadays there are many young worshipers in particular, and Shinto wedding ceremonies at Kifune Shrine are also becoming more popular. 600年ごろに、天武天皇が神のお告げを受けて創建したと伝えられています。
ミズハノメは、水の神として信仰され、降雨・止雨もその力に含まれていました。雨の必要な商業、つまりは穀物豊穣のために祈られてきました。戦国時代以降に大きな祭事がなくなり、「蜂通り神社」と名前が変わっていたため、明治以降に調査が行われるまで、「丹生川上神社」は行方不明でした。

It is said that around 600 years ago, Emperor Tenmu was told by God to build the shrine. Mizuhanome was worshiped as the god of water, and its power included rainfall and stopping rain. It has been prayed for commerce that needs rain, that is, for a good harvest. After the Warring States period, there were no major festivals, and the name was changed to "Hachidori Shrine", so "Niu Kawakami Shrine" was missing until an investigation was conducted after the Meiji period.
